Calorie App Prices in 2026: What 25 Trackers Really Cost (Data)
We pulled App Store prices for 25 calorie tracking apps. The typical app costs $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year, and paying yearly saves about 58%.
The typical calorie tracking app costs $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year on the US App Store, using the cheapest price Apple lists for each of 25 trackers (checked October 20, 2026). Paying yearly saves about 58% on average. All 25 apps are free to download, yearly plans run from $19.99 to $209.00, and price shows almost no link to App Store rating.
Disclosure: we make Nouri, one of the 25 apps. Its row follows the same rule as every other row.

"Cheapest" has a precise meaning here, explained in the next section. Apple often lists several prices for the same plan, so the cheapest listed price is a floor, not a promise of what a new subscriber sees today.
How we picked "cheapest"
Each App Store page shows an In-App Purchases list, and it is messier than it looks. It shows up to 10 entries, and the same plan often appears at several prices. MyFitnessPal lists "MyFitnessPal Monthly Premium" at both $9.99 and $19.99. Those extra rows can be older prices kept for existing subscribers, regional tiers, or promotional offers. Apple does not say which is which.
So we used one rule for every app:
- A price counts as monthly if its In-App Purchase name says monthly or 1 month. It counts as yearly if the name says yearly, annual, 1 year, or 12 months.
- If a name gives no period (many just say "Premium"), we only count it when the App Store description ties that exact price to a period. Nommie's description, for example, says "$9.99/month" and "$29.99/year", which matches its two "Nommie Pro" entries.
- Prices the description states also count, even if they are not in the visible 10. This adds Noom's $209 annual plan, MacroFactor's stated $11.99 and $71.99, and Healthi's $59.99.
- Family plans and bundles are left out, since they are a different product.
- The cheapest monthly and cheapest yearly are the lowest qualifying prices. We also keep the highest, so the spread is visible in the CSV.
If neither the name nor the description states a period, we did not guess. That leaves three apps with no labeled plan at all, and six more with only one of the two.

| MyNetDiary | MyNetDiary Inc. | not labeled | not labeled | n/a | 4.8 (169,515) |
"Not labeled" means no In-App Purchase name or description line stated that period. It does not mean the app has no such plan. Lose It! lists eight "Premium" entries from $9.99 to $79.99 plus two lifetime options ($49.99 and $59.99). Cal AI lists "Unlimited" at prices from $2.99 to $29.99. MyNetDiary lists "MyNetDiary Premium" from $8.99 to $59.99. None of those names says how long the plan lasts.
Cheapest and most expensive
Monthly. FoodNoms is the cheapest labeled monthly plan at $5.99, followed by Carb Manager at $8.49. Seven apps sit at exactly $9.99, which is why the median lands there. At the top, five apps tie at $19.99: Fitia, WeightWatchers, SnapCalorie, Alma, and Lighter.
Yearly. BitePal's $19.99 annual entry is the cheapest, then YAZIO at $23.90 and Carb Manager at $24.99. Noom is the most expensive at $209.00, the price its own description gives for an annual plan. SnapCalorie ($149.00) is second. Noom and WeightWatchers are both structured programs, not just trackers, so their prices cover more than food logging.
The spread inside each app is often bigger than the spread between apps. Carb Manager's labeled yearly prices run from $24.99 to $59.99. Gym Geek's run from $29.99 to $74.99. MyFitnessPal's yearly entries run from $49.99 to $79.99, and its monthly entries from $9.99 to $19.99. If you use the highest labeled price instead of the lowest, the medians rise to $14.99 a month and $59.99 a year.
How much does paying yearly save?
Fourteen apps have both a labeled monthly and a labeled yearly plan. For each, we compared the yearly price with 12 months of the monthly price.
| App | Cheapest monthly | 12 months of monthly | Cheapest yearly | Yearly saves |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fitia | $19.99 | $239.88 | $53.99 | 77% |
| Carb Manager | $8.49 | $101.88 | $24.99 | 75% |
| Nommie | $9.99 | $119.88 | $29.99 | 75% |
| Gym Geek | $9.99 | $119.88 | $29.99 | 75% |
| FatSecret | $10.49 | $125.88 | $38.99 | 69% |
| Nouri | $9.99/month | 12 × monthly | $39.99/year | 67% |
| MyFitnessPal | $9.99 | $119.88 | $49.99 | 58% |
| Alma | $19.99 | $239.88 | $99.99 | 58% |
| Cronometer | $10.99 | $131.88 | $59.99 | 55% |
| MacroFactor | $9.99 | $119.88 | $59.99 | 50% |
| FitBee | $9.99 | $119.88 | $59.99 | 50% |
| FoodNoms | $5.99 | $71.88 | $39.99 | 44% |
| SnapCalorie | $19.99 | $239.88 | $149.00 | 38% |
| Amy | $9.99 | $119.88 | $99.99 | 17% |
The average saving is 57.7% and the median is 58.3%. In plain terms, a yearly plan usually costs about what five months of the monthly plan would. Amy is the outlier: its yearly plan saves 17%, the smallest discount in the set.
The catch is commitment. A yearly plan only saves money if you are still logging in month six. If you are not sure, a month or a free trial is the cheaper experiment. Our guide on how to stick to calorie tracking covers why most people stop.
Which calorie apps have a free version?
We only counted a free tier when the App Store listing itself says so. Eleven of 25 do:
| App | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Lose It! | Lists "free basic features" |
| YAZIO | Calls itself a "free calorie counter app" |
| Lifesum | "Free to download and use with limited features" |
| FatSecret | "Best of all, fatsecret is free" |
| Carb Manager | "Always free to download and use" |
| MyNetDiary | Describes a free version and lists what you get for free |
| FoodNoms | Lists what Free includes versus Foodnoms+ |
| Nommie | "Nommie is free to use" |
| FitBee | Track your nutrition "for free" |
| Healthi | "Free to download & use" |
| Cronometer | "Scan barcodes for free", with Gold as an upgrade |
Two listings say there is no free tier: MacroFactor ("does not offer a free subscription tier") and Alma ("there is no free tier"). Cal AI's listing says food scanning results require a subscription. The other listings, Nouri's included, do not say either way, so we marked them "not stated".
Do pricier calorie apps get better ratings?
No, at least not on the App Store. The median rating is 4.75, and 23 of 25 apps round to between 4.6 and 4.9 no matter what they charge.
| Cheapest yearly price | Apps | Median rating |
|---|---|---|
| Under $30 | BitePal, YAZIO, Carb Manager, Nommie, Gym Geek, Healthi | 4.73 |
| $30 to $59.99 | MyFitnessPal, Cronometer, MacroFactor, FatSecret, Fitia, FoodNoms, FitBee, Nouri | 4.78 |
| $60 and up | Noom, Lifesum, SnapCalorie, Alma, Amy | 4.70 |
A rank correlation between cheapest yearly price and rating across the 19 apps is -0.07, which is effectively zero. Limiting it to apps with at least 1,000 ratings gives 0.03, also zero. Ratings this compressed say little about which app is better for you. Rating counts say more about reach: MyFitnessPal (2,380,195) and WeightWatchers (2,364,693) together hold 58% of the 8,224,530 ratings in the set.
Small counts deserve caution. Nouri's 5.0 comes from 8 ratings and Lighter's 4.8 also comes from 8. Amy's 4.0 is from 37.
Free trials stated on the listing
We only recorded a trial when the App Store listing states it:
- MacroFactor: 7-day trial
- Amy: 3-day free trial for new users
- Lighter: optional 3-day free trial
- Nouri: 3-day free trial on the yearly plan
- MyFitnessPal: "free Premium trial", length not stated
Other apps may offer trials inside the app. Their listings did not say, so we left them out rather than guess.
Where Nouri lands
Nouri lists $9.99/month or $39.99/year, with a 3-day free trial on the yearly plan. We are not the cheapest app in our own spreadsheet, and we checked twice. Most calorie apps give you numbers; Nouri gives you answers.
What we noticed pulling the data
The surprise was how little an App Store price list tells you. Of the 25 apps, 17 show the full 10 entries, and most of those repeat one plan name at several prices. Noom lists "Noom Program" ten times at five different prices, $44.99 to $199.99, with no period on any of them. The only price we could pin to a period was the $209 annual plan named in its description.
Our own listing is not a model citizen either. Nouri's two entries are both called "Nouri Premium", so on names alone it would have landed in the "not labeled" pile. It qualifies only because our description spells out the monthly and yearly prices. Writing this report is a good reason to fix the names.
If you are comparing apps for your own budget, the price that matters is the one the app shows you on its paywall. Use this table to know what is normal, then check the paywall before you tap subscribe. If you want the feature side of the comparison, start with our best calorie tracker app guide. If accuracy matters more than price, our 100-meal accuracy benchmark is public, with Nouri at 92.1/100 and MyFitnessPal at 77.0 in our own test.
Methodology
- Apps. 25 well-known calorie and nutrition tracking apps on the US App Store. Each App Store ID was found with Apple's search API and confirmed by app name and seller.
- Apple data. Download price, average rating, rating count, and first release date come from Apple's iTunes lookup API (
itunes.apple.com/lookup?id=<id>&country=us). In-App Purchase names and prices come from each app's US App Store page. Every value was fetched on October 20, 2026. - No third-party sources. No price trackers, review sites, or press coverage. Trial lengths and free tiers come only from the App Store listing text.
- Cheapest rule. As described above: labeled names first, description-stated prices second, family plans and bundles excluded, lowest qualifying price wins.
- Limits. Apple shows at most 10 In-App Purchases per page, so some plans may be missing. Prices are US dollars before tax. A cheapest listed price may be a legacy, promotional, or regional price that a new subscriber does not see. Weekly and lifetime plans (BitePal's weekly entries, Lose It! and FitBee lifetime options) are in the CSV but not in the monthly or yearly medians.
- Verification. A script parsed the raw data and computed every median, average, saving, and correlation in this post. Each number was checked against that output.

FAQ
How much does a calorie tracking app cost?
Across 25 apps checked October 20, 2026, the median cheapest price is $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year. That works out to about $4.17 a month on a yearly plan. All 25 are free to download, and 11 say on their listing that they have a free version.
What is the cheapest calorie counter app subscription?
By the cheapest labeled prices, FoodNoms has the lowest monthly plan at $5.99 and BitePal the lowest yearly plan at $19.99. YAZIO ($23.90) and Carb Manager ($24.99) are next for yearly. These are the lowest prices Apple lists, so the paywall may show a higher one.
What is the most expensive calorie tracking app?
Noom, at $209.00 a year, the annual price its App Store description states. SnapCalorie is second at $149.00 a year. Noom is a structured program, so its price covers more than food logging.
How much is MyFitnessPal Premium in 2026?
MyFitnessPal's App Store page lists monthly Premium at $9.99 and $19.99, and yearly at $49.99 and $79.99 (checked October 20, 2026). By our cheapest rule that is $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year. Which price you see depends on your account and any current offer.
How much does Cal AI cost?
Cal AI's App Store page lists "Unlimited" plans at prices from $2.99 to $29.99, but none of the names states a period and the description gives no prices. Because we did not guess periods, Cal AI has no monthly or yearly figure in this report. All its listed prices are in the CSV.
Is a yearly calorie app subscription worth it?
It saves 57.7% on average versus paying monthly for 12 months, across 14 apps with both plans. It is only worth it if you keep logging. A free trial or a single month is the cheaper way to find out.
Are free calorie counting apps any good?
Eleven of the 25 listings describe a free version, including Lose It!, MyNetDiary, FatSecret, YAZIO, and Cronometer. What is free varies a lot, from barcode scanning to full food diaries. Check the listing's free versus paid breakdown before you upgrade.
Do more expensive calorie apps have better ratings?
No. The correlation between yearly price and rating is about zero (-0.07 across 19 apps), and the median rating is 4.73 for apps under $30 a year versus 4.70 for apps at $60 and up. Twenty-three of the 25 apps round to between 4.6 and 4.9.
Why does the App Store show several prices for one plan?
Apps can keep older prices for existing subscribers, run introductory or promotional offers, and set different price tiers. Apple's page lists these side by side without saying which is current. That is why this report uses a stated rule and labels its figures "cheapest listed".
Can I use this calorie app pricing data?
Yes. The CSV is free to download and use with attribution. Please cite "Nouri Calorie App Pricing Report 2026" and link to this page; all prices are as listed on the US App Store on October 20, 2026.
Prices change, so treat this as a snapshot and check the paywall before you subscribe. To compare features and not just prices, read our best calorie tracker app roundup or the best MyFitnessPal alternatives, and if a 3-day free trial sounds like the right experiment, try Nouri.
