Noom: a psychology-based program with a color system and coaching

Everything below comes from Noom's own site, help center, and App Store listing, checked October 14, 2026.

How it works and where it wins:

Weaknesses:

Best for: people who want structured lessons on the why behind their eating, human coaching, a community, or a medication program alongside the app.

Pricing: Noom Weight is $70 month to month or $209 for an annual plan, with a choose-your-price 7-day trial (examples on its site range from $0.50 to $18) (noom.com)

The real difference: a program versus a tool

Noom is built like a course. You get lessons every day, a color system that nudges you toward lower calorie density foods, and people to talk to. The color logic is close to volume eating: more food on the plate for the same calories. If the reason you keep regaining is behavior, not math, that structure is the product.

Nouri is built like a tool. It assumes you want the number fast, done in a sentence, then a weekly read on what the numbers mean. Noom will teach you why the 10 p.m. cereal happened; tell Nouri about the bowl and it at least gets counted.

Price follows that split. Noom's annual plan is $209 and its month-to-month plan is $70, with 1:1 coaching as a paid add-on. Nouri is $39.99/year for everything, including Reports and Coach. You are paying Noom for curriculum and people. You are paying Nouri for speed and feedback.

Nouri Reports: most calorie apps give you numbers, Nouri gives you answers

Noom's daily lessons teach general habits. A Nouri Report is built only from what you logged.

When you get them: log on 3 days and Nouri builds your first report. After that, a new one arrives every Sunday for any week with 4 or more logged days.

What is inside:

What building Nouri taught me about logging

My own history is with MyFitnessPal and AI photo trackers, and both taught me something. With MyFitnessPal the numbers were fine, but logging a normal dinner took several minutes, and by week three I had stopped opening the app. The photo trackers were fast, but when I checked their estimates against what the ingredients added up to, they ran low. A plate the camera called around 400 calories worked out closer to 700, because a camera cannot see the oil in the pan.

So Nouri shows its work. I photographed a breakfast plate and Nouri first wrote back a sentence, "Two poached eggs on avocado toast, bacon, scrambled eggs, and fresh fruit bowl," then split it into four items: 850 calories, 42g protein, 75g carbs, 42g fat. That sentence is where you catch a mistake before anything is counted. Fast enough that I actually do it, honest enough that the number means something. That is a different bet from Noom's, which puts lessons and coaching at the center, and both bets can be right for different people.

How to choose

Pick Noom if you want a guided program: daily lessons, a color system that does the food judgment for you, human coaching, a community, Android support, or a medication program run by clinicians. Pick Nouri if you want the fastest possible log on iPhone, Siri from the lock screen, visible reasoning you can correct, and a weekly report, at $39.99/year. Coming from a database tracker instead? FAQ

Is Nouri or Noom better for weight loss?

It depends on what you need. Noom is better if you want structured lessons, coaching, and a community guiding you. Nouri is better if you want calorie logging that takes seconds and a weekly report telling you what to change.

What makes Nouri different from other calorie trackers?

There is no database to search. You type, say, or snap what you ate and get calories and macros instantly, with the reasoning and a confidence rating shown per item. Nouri Reports and Nouri Coach then turn those logs into answers.

What is a Nouri Report?

It is a weekly report built from your own logs: Health Score with "Why this score?", averages against your targets, days on target, wins, slips, and one focus. Your first arrives after 3 logged days, then every Sunday with 4 or more logged days.

Is Nouri worth it?

If you want fast logging and a clear weekly answer without paying for a coaching program, yes. Nouri is $39.99/year, and the 3-day free trial is long enough to log 3 days and get your first report.

How much does Noom cost per month?

Noom lists Noom Weight at $70 on a month-to-month plan, or $209 billed upfront for an annual plan, which Noom lists as $17.50 a month. Longer plans lower the monthly cost, and the Premium 1:1 coaching add-on is billed separately.

Does Noom have a free trial?

Noom Weight has a 7- or 14-day trial. For the 7-day trial, Noom lets you choose a price, with examples on its site from $0.50 to $18. After the trial, you are charged for the plan you selected.

How does Noom's color system work?

Noom labels foods green, yellow, or orange mainly by calorie density, calories per gram. For solid foods, under 1.0 is green, 1.0 to 2.4 is yellow, and above 2.4 is orange, with adjustments such as whole grains moving down a color and alcohol and soda moving up one.

Does Noom have real coaches?

Yes, in layers. Paid members get Welli, an AI assistant, plus a coach team reached through Welli, while a dedicated 1:1 Coach comes with the Premium add-on. Noom's help center says 1:1 Coaches reply within 24 hours on business days.

Does Noom offer GLP-1 medication?

Noom Med offers access to GLP-1 medications for eligible members, prescribed by clinicians through its platform, with plans starting at $69 a month for the first month's subscription, not including medication. Nouri is a food tracker, not a medical program. If you are on a GLP-1, see How Many Calories Should You Eat on Ozempic? and talk to your prescriber; this is general information, not medical advice.

Which app is more accurate?

Nouri scored 92.1/100 in our 100-meal accuracy benchmark (MyFitnessPal 77.0). That benchmark compared Nouri and MyFitnessPal only; we have not tested Noom. Nouri also shows per-item reasoning, so you can fix a wrong portion yourself.

Does Nouri work on Android?

No, Nouri is iPhone (iOS only). Noom supports both iOS and Android, so Android users should pick Noom in this comparison.

What is the easiest way to track calories for weight loss?

Use the method you will still be doing in week six. With Nouri, you can say "Hey Siri, track food in Nouri" from the lock screen, describe the meal in one sentence, and see a calories and macros card with what you have left for the day, no app opening needed.
